If you drink your coffee black, you can sip it straight from the mug/press. If you have a hot water dispenser, you don't even need to boil water. It has a strainer on the plunger and a strainer on the lid, so you never get coffee grounds in your drink. Saw this and thought I'd try it. The vendor also shipped on time and packaged everything nicely so it got to me in fine shape. Just put a few scoops of ground coffee in the mug, add hot water, put on the lid, let it steep for 5 minutes and push down the plunger.
I'll probably buy this for friends as their birthdays come around. I needed something for my office so I could make fresh coffee during the day. Really easy & makes great coffee (I'm picky about coffee.I like it very strong). If you like cream & sugar, you can pour it into another mug and add that.
Designer suggestion: moulding the handle as part of a threaded top would solve all the physical complaints associated with this cup. The press works fine and makes having good coffee on camping trips quick and easy. I have yet to experiment with finer grinds, so make no statement in that regard. In agreement with other reviewers, the handle attachment is flimsy and quickly became loose on mine, but that seems to be a pattern with all single-attach point handles of this nature. Overall, this is an excellent French Press in that it does very well what it is supposed to do -- make good coffee and keep it warm. Contrary to other reviewers, from course grind through medium grind, I have never had the first ground bypass the screen. Moreover, the cup keeps the coffee drinkably warm for as long as anyone would want to carry it around.
S. My rating is made up out of whole cloth, as I haven't yet recieved my Desk Press. I checked out the web site, and there are a number of errors in the written English they use.So they didn't pay attention in grade school. I figure they won some award from the association, but not the entire thing. Also, they use commas where there is no pause in human, speech. However, I am not impressed with the written material from the company. I have decided to buy one of these for use when I travel, which is nearly all the time. I hope they are better at making coffee presses than they are at writing. For example, the specifications declare that the deskpress is "Winner of the Specialty Coffee Association of America." I doubt that they now own that association. I just hope they paid attention when they learned how to design and manufacture coffee presses.P.
It's a coffee press/mug - of course it gets stains inside. It's well made so it will be around for a while. I see the comments about the coffee staining inside - what's that about. I just wish it would fit in the cup holder.- Secondly, like the other reviewer wrote, I wish the press top (there are two - one is for the press and one is just a regular top) fit just a bit tighter - like with snap or something - maybe a screw top instead.
Wash it out. Let's just say you don't want to chug that last mouth full too fast. And, they're far too hot to hold once full. Then I found this little baby from Planetary Design and haven't looked back. I highly recommend. It's actually not as heavy as I feared it might be. But, alas, it's plastic (which is already a negative) so they would break periodically as well.
My wife and I both love it. The design is solid and I plan to have it for a few more years at least. I've haven't found anything that holds coffee that doesn't need the occasional hard scrub.Only negatives I have to report are minor (I'm buying a second one of these for my wife)- I wish it fit in a standard cup holder in the car. I have yet to find anything better and the price is more than fair given the expected life of this product. I wanted to like the Bodum because it was cheap, the size was ideal and it closed tight. It's stainless, solid, has a great handle and I've taken it with me through many countries.
Oh well, I still do like the large capacity.
I would highly recommend this mug. The stainless steel design keeps coffee very hot for a long time. I came across this mug and knew right away it would be perfect. It allows me to make fresh, hot coffee on demand. I was tired of carrying a thermos to work and either drinking mediocre coffee or wasting it because it got too cold to drink. I was looking for a single service French press that would make coffee making at work simple. The second screen at the drinking slot ensures no grounds get through.
